Have you ever experienced a moment in your life when you wished you could start over? Just hit the reset button and make different choices? Go to another school, change your job, pick a different career, or maybe marry the other guy!
I have. While I didn’t ask for it I nonetheless got a chance to start over.
I was lucky. When I was widowed, I had to completely reinvent myself. This time however I did it consciously and strategically. As a result I’m in a much better position in every key area of my life.
What if you had the chance to do that without having to go through all that trauma. Would you do it? Would you take a long, clear-eyed look at your life and determine what works, what needs to change?
Today I’m inviting you to follow along and to learn from my struggles and my mistakes. You might think that my story is exceptional, but here’s the thing:
These sorts of situations are happening all around you to friends, family members, co-workers and the lady who sits next to you on the bus every morning. And they can happen to you.
If you’ve ever had an “oh my God what am I going to do now” moment, you know what I’m talking about.
I know what it’s like to be in a financial hole that is so deep you can barely see the light above.
I also know what it’s like to be immobilized by grief and anger.
And I have cursed myself in multiple languages for making incredibly stupid mistakes that cost me dearly. Not just the “damn, I forgot to buy milk” variety; I’m talking about the big stuff that makes you talk to yourself like you’re an idiot.
There is no vaccine against hardship but there are steps that you can take to protect yourself to ensure that the landing is a much softer one in the event that life happens. There are also strategies that you can implement to raise your immunity and grow your life in significant ways.
In March of 2012 I started this blog to record some of the lessons that I’ve learned. Those lessons are being compiled in a book entitled If I Had Known. In the meantime I’ve written an eBook called 5 Ways Women Can Move From Financial Sabotage To Financial Success. This is my gift to you. Here is the link:
Through this blog, the book and my Facebook Page I want to start a conversation about money, choices and options for women. I will share all of the strategies that have worked well for me and those that have been stunning failures. The good, the bad and the ugly will all show up here.
I encourage you to lend your voice and your experience to the discussion. Chime in whenever something resonates or if you think of something you’d like me to address. This is about women helping women.
Until next time, Survive, Thrive and Grow!
