The idea for a membership group was inspired by Doris’ 2017 research project in which she interviewed Canadian women from coast to coast to coast. Doris’ goal was to determine what women feel they need to learn when it comes to their personal finances, then create a course to address these needs. However, the list of topics requested was too large to cover in a single course.
Investing came up repeatedly as an area in which women feel intimidated. It was also clear that there were significant gaps in core financial literacy. Doris developed the Take Charge of Your Money and Invest With Confidence courses to address these areas of need.
The monthly membership group, on the other hand, allows for ongoing education while exploring a range of topics throughout the year. It provides an opportunity to consistently apply new skills and knowledge. This is what builds new habits and, ultimately, helps you achieve better results.
The membership format also offers ongoing support and accountability as members work through every aspect of their finances.
One of the biggest benefits to emerge from the Women’s Money Group is the development of new friendships. One member describes the group as her “allies” in her quest to strengthen her finances. The result is a dynamic, diverse group of women willing to help each other, exchange of ideas, and provide encouragement.
Think of it this way: Instead of paying a huge fee for a private coach, you have an entire community of support available 24/7 for the price of a couple bottles of wine every month.
The monthly membership was developed for women who may need some financial flexibility. Since there are fewer perks, this membership level can be cancelled at any time. Please note that there are no pro-rated refunds for partial months. The monthly fee is automatically billed every month until you cancel.
The annual membership offers more benefits at a reduced monthly rate. The membership is automatically renewed annually and is not refundable given the additional benefits.
The workshops take place the last Tuesday of most months from 6:45 pm – 9 pm EST.
The are a few exceptions. In July and December, we hold the workshops a bit earlier in the month to work around holiday schedules. There is no workshop in August, however there are still Office Hours in August.
The workshops are broadcast live via Zoom to allow you to participate regardless where you live. Geography and the weather are not impediments!
We send a link to join in the workshop to all members a few days prior to the workshop.
In addition to the workshops, there are regular Office Hours for Q&A and coaching. Details of dates and times are shared through our member mailing list. Email reminders are also sent out at the beginning of each month.
The workshops are recorded and made available to all members a few days after the workshop. The recording is available for viewing for 30 days after the link is shared.
NOTE: We work hard to ensure the safety of our space and our community. For this reason, recordings are for the use of members only. Sharing the meeting videos with non-members, in part or in whole, is not allowed. Members who do not abide by this policy will have their memberships cancelled.
The workshop topics vary based on the needs of the members. If you have a question or a topic you’d like us to address, please email us and we’ll consider it.
Please see Upcoming Monthly Workshops for the list of topics in the coming months.
Money works the same way for everyone, whether you are a woman or a man, young or old, experienced or inexperienced.
Everyone needs the same key elements to succeed financially: an understanding of the core principles of personal finance, the confidence to apply what you know (i.e. you need to do the work), support, and accountability.
Our job is to provide financial literacy education, a system, guidance, and support. With that, if you’re willing to do the work, you can thrive.
