It’s a powerful format that works!

WMG is helping me build the knowledge, skills and confidence to grow my money on my own.  With Doris’s guidance, and from the feedback from the other members, I've started to learn about my own values (and fears) around money, which I had never articulated before. This has been a life-changing experience, and it is helping me to put in place important and necessary protections to secure my financial future. This has brought me incredible peace of mind and for that I am forever grateful.

What's My Investment?

What is financial uncertainty costing you? How does it feel to not have a safe place to ask your so-called “dumb questions”? Are you overwhelmed by the reams of information available? Which recommendations are motivated by profit? What opportunities are you missing because you just don’t feel ready to act? How can you move forward when you don't know where to start?

A lack of confidence and knowledge may already be costing you a great deal. Invest in yourself through financial literacy education, within a supportive group, to get better results.

1Why was the Women’s Money Group created?
The idea for a membership group was inspired by Doris’s 2017 research project, in which she interviewed Canadian women from coast to coast to coast. Doris’s goal was to determine what women want and need to learn when it comes to their personal finances. She intended to create a course to address these needs. What she discovered is that the list of topics requested is far too large to cover in a single course.

Investing came up repeatedly as an area in which women feel intimidated. It was also clear that there were significant gaps in core financial literacy. Doris developed the Money Power 1 and Money Power 2 workshops to address these areas of need.

The monthly membership group, on the other hand, allows for an exploration of a range of topics throughout the year. It also provides an opportunity to consistently apply new skills and knowledge. This is what builds new habits and ultimately helps you achieve better results. The membership format also offers ongoing support and accountability as members work through every aspect of personal finances.

One of the strong benefits to emerge from the Women’s Money Group is the development of new friendships. One member describes the group as her “allies” in her quest to strengthen her finances. The result is a dynamic group of people willing to help each other through an exchange of ideas and support.

Think of it this way: Instead of paying a huge fee for a private coach, you have an entire community of support available 24/7.
2What’s the difference between the monthly and annual memberships?
The monthly membership was developed to allow flexibility for women whose schedules prevent them from attending on a regular basis. This membership can be cancelled and restarted at any time.

The annual membership offers more benefits at a reduced monthly rate. The membership fee is billed once per year and is not refundable because of the additional benefits.
    3When are the meetings?
The in-person meetings take place the last Tuesday of every month from 7 pm - 9 pm. The location and meeting details are posted in the Upcoming Meetings section on this page.

The online meetings will take place the last Wednesday of every month, from 7 pm to 9 pm beginning February 27th, 2019.

The meetings are followed by a webinar either two or three weeks after the meeting, depending on the month. Doris shares the webinar dates with attendees during the meetings. Email reminders are also sent out.
4What if I don’t live in the Ottawa area? How can I participate in the meetings?
On February 27th, 2019, we will launch online meetings that will cover the same content delivered at the in-person meetings. Please see the "What's My Investment" section above for details on the benefits included in online-only annual and monthly memberships.

Note that In Person memberships give you access to both in-person meetings as well as the online meetings. Online Memberships are for online meetings only.
5What if I’m busy the night of the meeting? Will it be recorded for later viewing?
The meetings will not be recorded to ensure confidentiality and privacy for the participants.
6Which topics will be covered at the meetings?
The meeting topics vary based on the needs of the members. If you have a question you’d like us to address at a meeting, please email us and we’ll consider it for a future meeting.

Please see Upcoming Meetings for the list of topics we will address in the coming months.
7Will this information work for me?
Money works the same way for everyone, whether you are a woman or a man, young or old, experienced or inexperienced. Everyone needs the same key elements to succeed financially: an understanding of the core principles of personal finance, application (i.e. you need to do the work), support, and accountability.

Our job is to provide core financial literacy and support. With that, if you’re willing to do the work, you can thrive.
